Today in American history…Abraham Lincoln married Mary Todd on November 4, 1842 at the home of her sister Elizabeth in Springfield, Illinois.

According to the Chicago Tribune edition on July 18, 1882, the inscription on her wedding band read “A.L. to Mary, Nov. 4, 1842. Love is Eternal.”
