Today in American history…the U.S. Naval base at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu was attacked by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service early Sunday morning at 7:48am on December 7, 1941.
A total of 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed.
Twenty-one ships were damaged or lost in the attack, of which all but three were repaired and returned to service
2,403 Americans were killed.
The surprise attack led President Roosevelt to formally declare war and enter the U.S. into World War II the following day.
